Work summary and prospects

1. Work Summary of "The top 10 competitiveness enterprises in the wire and cable industry of China in 2014"
This report adopts the analysis method by repetition of stages, from source of competitiveness to elements of competitiveness and then to indicators of competitiveness evaluation, and the systematic thinking mode, from competitiveness resource input to the transaction process and then to competitiveness output. According to the research analysis, it demonstrates the research level of an enterprise's feature and competitiveness as well as the concept and meaning of general enterprise competitiveness and comprehensively proposes five principles & definitions and six meanings that decide enterprise competitiveness. As for enterprise competitiveness principle, we have highlighted principles of ecology, dynamism and sustainability and pointed out that ecology and sustainability is the competitiveness fountain maintaining long-term survival and development. In terms of the definition of enterprise competitiveness, we utilize a triangle method combing purpose, means and external performance, forming a relatively integrated definition of enterprise competitiveness, namely, the comprehensive ability that an enterprise displays in order to achieve the goal of business advantage, value creation, market occupation & control and the sustainable development by means of environmental analysis, internal integration and the rational allocation of resources when compared with other similar enterprises. It is an ability to make sustaining profits and create value; It is the highest comprehensive performance of the attraction of collaboration between parent &subsidiary company and various element ability to competitors. Moreover, we analyze and study the "hardware and software" that affect enterprise competitiveness from the view of compound ecosystem; we analyze the constituent elements of an enterprise from the view of market and ecology in equal importance and we analyze the significant of enterprise competitiveness from the view of interfirm rivalry.

Enterprise competitiveness is systematic and dynamic. The ever changing abilities of culture, operation, technology, innovation, management and the external environment of an enterprise can be regarded as the subsystem of the enterprise competitiveness system. On the one hand, they have their own functions, structure and targets; On the other hand, they affect enterprise competitiveness in a correlating and constraining relationship.

Based on the systematical and elemental analysis of enterprise competitiveness and after a thorough study on the evaluation indicator system at home and abroad, we have exploringly established the indicator system of theory and indicator system after the second convergence, following the principle of purpose, science, system and applicability. In this evaluation system, we have designed some relevant evaluation indicators that are proper, feasible and convenient. They include, for instance, culture integration index, culture cohesion ability, customized cost efficiency and its index, competition coefficient of market size, satisfactory index of the benefits related and sustainable growth coefficient. Some other indicators, such as production construction ability and technology innovation realization ability, previously regarded as qualitative or vaguely quantitive, are partly classified into quantitive indicators in this report in an exploring way. By establishing the theoretical indicator system and real (convergence) indicator system, we deeply feel that this task is of system and hierarchical structure. We have to grasp the internal links or the restraining correlation among all competitiveness elements and evaluation indicators.

This report covers the detailed profiles of the top 50 competitiveness enterprises in all wire and cable industry of China and calculate the indicator score and relevant competition strengthen & weakness of every enterprise. Apart from enterprise competitiveness profiles, detailed data figures also show the rankings and other aspects of every enterprise that is based on variables in index calculation. For the financial data and its standard value of the listed enterprises and their comparisons, please refer to the appendix in this report. Technical notes as relevant data sources and the comprehensive definition of specific variables are also attached.

Besides, the report of this year is characterized by several outstanding contributions of distinguished scholars and experts whose research area are certain enterprises or some broader development theme. Some scholars and experts base their analysis and research on the research results while others explore on the competitiveness aspects of enterprises that are highlighted by the indicator of enterprise competitiveness. They all show a keen interest in the requirements for sustainable growth and development and have submitted an insightful reading material for decision maker, enterprises and relevant persons. Each scholar and expert focuses on different aspect of competitiveness and has made in-depth analysis for the vital problems when conducting research on enterprise competitiveness. There is a strong relevance of these theme researches with enterprises. They can both be the references and demonstrations for enterprise competitiveness indicator, enterprises profiles, and other data figures in this report.

The same competitiveness performance can be reflected by difference indicators and we have chosen the Granger Causality Test methods and other statistical methods. However, competitiveness evaluation is such a sophisticated system that it is inevitably vulnerable to deficiencies which remain to be improved, especially the qualitative classification of the property and state indicators and data collection & process.

In evaluation indicator system, one category of indicators is measureable and it is called hard indicators, including 9 first class indicators whose data are obtained from annual report of listed company or State Administration of Taxation. The hard indicator index is at least of interval scale. Another category is called soft indicator, also known as property and state indicator, including 5 first class indicators, is the index for understanding and deciding the unquantifiable aspects of enterprise competitiveness. The soft indicator data are accessible through expert research. Questions in questionnaire, designed by experts, adopt Lv-5 and Lv-7 subjective evaluation system. The property and state indicator index is at least of interval scale.

Property and state indicators are more subjective and are easy to fluctuate but it is capable of quantifying certain performances that are hard to or incapable of quantification, thus making up for the deficiencies of hard indicators. Property and state indicators are obtained of the same year, thus, they are with greater timelines and are more representative of the latest performance of competitiveness.

On account of the heavy workload and extraordinary efforts in the research on property and state indicators, it now becomes the most difficult aspect to operate, especially the unstable questionnaire quality. We have hence come up with two solutions. One is setting a strict limit on its percentage rate, taking up 20% of the whole indicators. Another one is the design and selection of a number of other statistical indicators for examination and correction, apart from the questionnaire. Other statistical indicators we have adopted are, for instance:
Process management, a second class indicator, for correcting statistical indicators as the rate of the first class product, quality rate, output value rate of new products and quality loss rate. Marketing culture, a second class indicator, for correcting the statistical indicator of the ratio of advertising expenditure to total output value.

It can be drawn from the above examples that the number of statistical indicators for examining and correcting different property and state indicators are not in consistency. Similarly, statistical indicators that are chosen for examining and correcting different property and state indicators are not of equal importance. Thus, we attach different weight to indicators in accordance with their degree of importance and calculate their comprehensive influence through weighted average method. We then make another weighted average calculation of comprehensive influence results and the weighted research data, reaching the final data of a certain property and state indicators.

It should be pointed out that, during the process of examining and correcting property and state indicators through statistical indicators, we have applied nearly to 73 items of relevant indicators. This has enormously enlarged the information content and improved the evaluation for wire and cable enterprise competitiveness.
