However, as a double-edged sword, global competition presents both opportunities and challenges for China enterprises. Some rises while others fall. In an age when millions compete, every enterprise is actively committed to the inspection, nourishment and enhancement of its competitiveness. Nevertheless, affected by market chaos, which is also an objective factor, China wire and cable industry has no yet formed a competiveness evaluation system to assist enterprises in enhancing their competiveness and promoting industry development. Therefore, Electric Cable and Wire Branch of China Electrical Equipment Industry Association, joined together by Global Cable and Wire & Cable Information Research Institute, has established a project team researching on enterprise competitiveness in the wire and cable industry of China. Beginning in 2014, the project team will select "the Top 10 competitiveness enterprises in the wire and cable industry of China of the year" and "the Top 50 enterprises in the wire and cable industry of China of the year" and release the competitiveness report at the end of every year. The annual report is expected to advance the healthy growth of China wire and cable industry and provide references for China wire and cable enterprises to understand their strengths and weaknesses and formulate and adjust strategies. Moreover, it can serve as the third-party evaluation basis for enterprises to participate in bid and tender and other market competition as well as for various sorts of selection activities.
Hopefully, it is revealed in the survey, researching on relevant enterprises' participation, that this selection has won deep support from enterprises in the industry. Some enterprises have expressed their warm welcomes and regard it as a chance to understand their strength and position in the industry as well as a platform for learning and sharing experience. Indeed, the selection of "the Top 10 competitiveness enterprises in the wire and cable industry of China of the year" not only brings due recognition and honor to those competitive enterprises, but more importantly, it delivers the most advanced and valuable information for wire and cable industry, contributing to the growth of China wire and cable industry.
In this research, we manage to apply competitiveness evaluation information to provide a rational thought and feasible solution for wire and cable entrepreneurs and industry users. From abstract logic to the competitiveness research and practice, it is necessary for us to build relevant theory and method according to specific object of study and research objectives. Considering the sophisticated economic operation situation of enterprises, the subjects of competition, it is hard to judge their competitiveness based merely on performances from several aspects. Therefore, the representation of the competitiveness level of subjects that have sophisticated economic operation situation, itself, is an essential part of the competitiveness research. In fact, the representation of competitiveness level is often inextricably interwoven with the research of competitiveness determinants and the decision mechanisms. Currently, there has not formed a unified, independent, and logical system of theory and methodology, no matter at home orabroad. Thus, the majority of enterprise competitiveness researches basically adopt factorable reductionism put forward by the Great Newton. For instance, in order to identify the competitiveness of an enterprise, one may make the assumption, based on relevant theories, that the competitiveness level of an enterprise is determined by a number of competitiveness elements and a certain element' competitiveness level is determined by its sub-competitiveness element, etc...This process repeats until one get the business indicators that are simpler and easier to compare. Thereby, a logical framework that unifies the representation of competitiveness level and the analysis of competitiveness determinants is established, which is also the core work of competitiveness research. The two major agencies in Switzerland, WEF and IMD, has assembled tremendous distinguished experts in economics and management science during years of research, thus forming a relatively reasonable competitiveness theory and hierarchy research mode. They lead the global competitiveness research and enjoy a pivotal role for their experience, evaluation and conclusion.
The mainstream of enterprise competitiveness research in China adopts a combining method of WEF and IMD and utilizes the information from Global Competitiveness Report and the World Competitiveness Yearbook for research. To make this selection and research in the wire and cable industry gear towards international enterprise competitiveness research, we also adopt the theory and method of WEF and IMD as the fundamental theory basis. We can establish the theory analysis framework and the evaluation operating system in the light of concrete conditions of the wire and cable industry and then give the representation of and evaluation on the competitiveness status or level of wire and cable industry in China. Following the requirements of evaluation theory and method, we have collected and investigated the data of 100 competitive enterprises and finished the evaluation and research of their competitiveness status in time sequence. As a conclusion, we get the selection results of "the Top 10 competitive enterprises in the wire and cable industry of China during 2013-2014" and "the Top 50 enterprises in the wire and cable industry of China during 2013-2014" . The accomplishment of this task is actually an establishment of enterprises' managerial database for China wire and cable industry on account of theories of enterprise competitiveness research, laying significant data foundations for the in-depth studies of the future development of wire and cable enterprises in China.
Competitiveness enterprises selection is a significant task that extends to the future for our evaluation panel. The data result of this year is merely an achievement for the current stage. Considering the large volume of workload and the problem of limited time, there may be missing and inaccurate information that we collected and processed. There are still some defects in the design of the competitiveness evaluation indicator system and the competitiveness evaluation of the wire and cable enterprises remained to be improved when compared with international comparative methods. It is inevitable to have mistakes in the conclusion of the research.
